You can’t fight City Hall, but City Hall can’t stop piracy

I love Senator Mikulski, but her intern or whoever wrote back to me pissed me off.

You can’t stop piracy. You can’t without severely overstepping privacy. The industry who is the most pissed off about this piracy issue is more than likely the MPAA which is headed by a former Senator from Connecticut, Chris Dodd.

In this template email that was sent out to probably everyone by Mikulski’s office she stated how important it was to look at piracy and how it was bad for our economy and hurts artists.

Go F yourself.

First off. Piracy is terribly awfully rampant in other parts of the world, and the rest of the world makes up the majority of our market for movies and video games, but they always choose to go after Americans. They chose to go after Napster and developers of similar programs in America because they didn’t want people developing piracy networks here. Absolutely ridiculous development could easily be done in the U.S. and sent to Sweden to be run there.

Megaupload went down today and the Federal government is going after a Hong Kong Company in New Zealand. What is wrong with you? You know how long it took them to put that together to get a case against Megaupload? I don’t but I think we all know it was a long process. Do you know how fast we could have the content of Megaupload back up on the web? Probably by tomorrow morning. They don’t seem to see a problem here? Really?

That’s beside the point, the email basically made it clear that they were looking to allow for creativity to thrive and trying to help out. Really so the government is attacking citizens because the private industry couldn’t come up with a solution for their greed?

The MPAA and movie industry use some of the worst accounting to fuck over their actors/directors/employees in general. The movie industry has done nothing to try and appeal to consumers. Movie tickets and they are blaming everyone but themselves. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwreaked? You have kept the same pricing structure for the past 10 years and now that you got a taste of glory in 2002 you have used the same moronic distribution model for everything. Your revenue goes up almost every year, but you have been selling less tickets, but you still bitch and complain that even though you have done nothing to cultivate an environment where you can make money. Why do so many DPs think that digitization of the originals is of a higher quality than film reprints? Why are you still wasting so much money on film? Why do you not take the blame that the major movie theatres have forced the same shit down your throats for years, Black Movie that costs nothing, Summer Blockbusters, sequels that are fillers for the Spring and Fall, Oscar bait in the Winter. You’ve wasted so much money on stupid shit when you could be digitally distributing everything you do. Why can I not see movies 5 weeks in for cheaper? Motivate people to see your shittier movies!

You had Netflix where people could stream movies and you clamped down on the price and fucked it in the throat. You got a wiff of something that might work and instead of letting it develop you have stunted it’s growth. You’re upset about DVD sales? Why don’t you revise your pricing policy for digital content! You don’t have to convert and create tapes or dvds any more. The formats are there and designed by outsiders. You can take your already digital movies and stick them online within months. Everything you do is so stagnant, so guess what, people steal your movies. You don’t like it, change. Do not keep begging congress to bail you out.

Television industry. I have a tv tuner and more and more cable boxes allow recording on outside hard drives. Essentially. I can record a lot of television on a hard drive on my computer. I can edit out the commercials. I can send that to my friend now. What are you going to do about it? It’s not my fault that you can’t monetize the value of internet television. You had hulu, and for a while, it was good, but like the movie industry with Netflix, you jumped on too early. I’m sorry you can’t negotiate for more money based on internet advertising. I am, but really, if I can already watch something on my dvr and jump through commercials why do you care if I’m watching it online?

Video games. We are loyal and we will pay for you if you are good. EA keep producing shitty sports games every year and collect your check. Don’t get upset when your shit doesn’t sell otherwise.

The point is, American people aren’t really the problem here. The greedy industries are. the fact that the government thinks that wasting time on something they clearly know nothing about  when we should be focusing on education is absolute garbage.

This is an awful post, but these are a lot of things I’ve read and know about, and it’s just embarrassing.
